Front Desk Cropped chiropractic Chiropractic - CPS Novi Front Desk CroppedThe purpose of chiropractic care is to keep the skeletal system in line and functioning freely. At Chiropractic Performance Solutions, we personalize your care to help restore and maintain normal joint, muscle, and nervous system function. Improving function is the key to long-term pain relief; failure to restore function means any pain relief is temporary and increases the risk of chronic pain. Chiropractors use controlled forces—called adjustments—when the body is unable to overcome restrictions around joints. Such restrictions include muscle spasm, swelling (inflammation), scar tissue, and pain. Prior to an adjustment, a thorough exam is performed, typically including x-rays. This examination identifies restricted joints, whether or not they are painful or not. Adjustments specifically applied to these joints can restore motion when the body’s own muscles cannot. Adjustments help relieve pain as well as restore and maintain normal movement, biomechanics, and function. The controlled force of an adjustment safely generates the energy needed to overcome such restrictions and takes a joint back to its normal, full range of motion. Our taping and functional rehabilitation programs are used to further prolong the benefits of our chiropractic programs.  Spider Tech taping and Kinesio Taping® methods are designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process, while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.

The number of visits a patient will need for a complete treatment plan varies greatly, depending on the problem, age, and health of the individual. At Chiropractic Performance Solutions, we cater our treatment program to the individual’s goals. Once the treatment plan is completed, the patient can make the choice to continue with a preventive maintenance program. Chiropractic preventive maintenance helps maintain good health, much like going to the dentist regularly prevents cavities. Most athletes optimize their health for better performance by using regular chiropractic care. Dr. Karl specializes in optimizing athletic biomechanics by using SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) to identify areas of dysfunction before they become systematic.

A nerve goes to every cell in your body. The same nerve that goes to a muscle or skin cell also goes to the organs, glands, tissue, and blood vessels in that area. Your brain and central nervous system control how all parts and systems of your body function. Irritation to nerves can cause functional problems like headaches, fatigue, sinus allergies and sleep problems, irritability, and digestive problems. It can cause sensory problems like pain, tension, tingling, and numbness. Chiropractic works similarly to removing a pebble from a shoe.  A tiny pebble, because of its constant irritation to the nerve, can drive you crazy. At first it feels like a pressure, then an irritation, and finally, pain. What happens if you move the pebble around in your shoe, but you don’t remove it? It hurts everywhere it goes, doesn’t it? That’s because there is a nerve to every cell in your body. So what did you do about the pebble? You took your shoe off and removed the pebble! You wouldn’t take medication for the pain caused by having a pebble in your shoe. It is not logical to treat a physical problem with a chemical solution! Having foot surgery for pebble irritation would be extreme. The correct thing to do is to remove the pebble from the shoe, because a physical problem is causing the irritation.

That’s similar to what chiropractors do. Chiropractors are nerve doctors. They treat your nerves without drugs and surgery. They are trained to locate tiny areas of irritation to your nerves and remove them safely and painlessly. By removing irritation, chiropractic allows your body to function properly and to heal itself.
