Plantar Fasciitis is associated with foot pain, specifically around the heel. Plantar Fascia is a thick band of tissue used to support the arch in the foot, and when it experiences excessive tension, it begins to tear. If the foot continues to tear, it may create inflammation and irritation, resulting in Plantar Fasciitis.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis may be caused by a number of factors. Those between the ages of 40-60 are more likely to experience Plantar Fasciitis. The disease is also common in runners, obese people and those with a high arch or flat feet. Having a job that keeps you on your feet all day can also worsen Plantar Fasciitis. If untreated, the disease could result in further pain and problems in the foot, hip, knee and back.

How can Active Release Technique help?

Active Release Technique, or ART, is an active massage treatment where the therapist locates the scar tissue and works to break up the adhesions caused by Plantar Fasciitis in order to reinstate normal tissue movement and flexibility. The therapist applies pressure to the muscles and lengthens the tissue around the Plantar Fascia to assess tension and understand the extent of the problem and treat it effectively. ART usually takes 4-6 treatments to fix the injury.
